YLAD Living Soils 2025 Field Day

What an amazing day we had for our 2025 Field Day – where everything truly aligned: perfect weather, passionate producers, delicious food, and wise teachers. Together, we shared a powerful vision for the future of agriculture, focusing on the 4 M’s: Microbes, Minerals, Matter, and Management — the cornerstones of building Resilient Soil.

Thank You for Joining Us!

We are deeply grateful you took time out of your busy schedule to attend. We hope the day gave you helpful insights into how healthy living soils are essential for healthy plants and ultimately healthy humans.

Practical Tools for Regenerative Farming

Someone commented during the day, “You can tell a good agronomist by the tools in their ute.” And we certainly had a ute full of tools for practical demonstrations on soils, plants, and microbes—going well beyond the surface.

It was fantastic to see everyone:

  • Auger into the soil in the multi-species crop

  • Examine root depth and soil layers

  • Use tools like:

    • Refractometer

    • Microbiometer

    • Penetrometer

    • Water infiltration tube

These tools are simple yet powerful ways to assess your soil. You're welcome to use them on your farm—or give me a call and I’ll gladly visit and help.

 Moving Forward: Your Next Steps

Although I didn’t get to speak with everyone personally, I’d love to connect now that the day is behind us. Here's how I can help:

1. Soil Test Review or Collection

If you have results already or would like to take new tests (kits were included in your Field Day bag), I will spend about an hour reviewing them to identify your limiting factor—whether it’s Physical, Chemical, or Biological.

2. Leaf Tissue Testing

Use the Leaf Tissue Test kits (also in your bag) and send samples to EAL Lab. This allows you to take advantage of foliar fertilisation, a powerful way to enhance:

  • Growing shoots

  • Root development

  • Fruit/seed formation

  • Root exudates

This helps you supercharge photosynthesis—the plant’s engine for carbon sequestration and growth.

Here’s to a Healthier Season Ahead

Your participation helped make this Field Day a huge success. Let’s keep the momentum going—whether it’s through testing, implementing new practices, or simply staying curious and connected.

Living soils are the foundation of resilient pastures, crops, and livestock. Let’s build that foundation together.
